Hatch Ballet dress rehearsal

I recently had the chance to sketch at the dress rehearsal of Hatch Ballet Under The Stars, an extraordinary event organised by Matt Brady of the Covent Garden Dance Company.

He curates a fabulous mix of traditional ballet and more contemporary dance, a feast for observational drawing.

The initial sketches are a raw response to the dances as they unfold, an expression of movement and form.

Some of these I leave alone, enjoying the unconscious lines and energy, some are a great base which I draw on further in the studio from videos that I take.
