I was thrilled to be asked to produce some work for this year’s Bob Champion Cancer Trust Christmas card. Tricky in the long hot summer that we’ve just had to be painting wintry scenes in the studio, but it has been a challenge I’ve enjoyed.

To find that ‘Little Aldaniti’ had won a Shetland race at Wincanton, a racecourse I’ve had a happy association with for the last 10 or so seasons, gave me the perfect opportunity create a painting in the style that I do the winners on the racecard for Wincanton, Exeter and Kempton.

Shetlands also just make you smile, so a perfect subject for the ‘b side’ of the Christmas card which had traditionally had a humorous theme. I was able to use the fantastic photography of Francesca Altoft as a reference photo for this, for which I was very grateful.

I’ve been in denial that we are nearing Christmas, but now it’s November, definitely time to order these cards now! Such a fantastic charity, I feel honoured to be able to support them and the research they fund in this way
